I guessed the ending of this one way too quickly, especially Robert’s “secret”. Also, Deborah discovers the stalker is in Miami because of his Facebook page, but Dexter is the only one who ever checks it again to track him down?? That seems like bad continuity and lazy plot development to me. I’m also getting pretty sick of every single person who Dexter interacts with ending up dead by the end of the novel, thus clearing him from any and all suspicion so that the next book begins as though everyone who has shaken Dexter’s hand over the last few years hasn’t been brutally murdered or gone missing.
The book is mindlessly entertaining like all the rest in the series but this one suffers from Lindsay changing Dexter’s character on a whim. I have no problem with him committing infidelity (he is a murderous pyschopath afterall) but he seems to lose all conciousness of his children and Rita who he has been shown to care for over 6 previous books. The whole thing seemed out of character.
3.5⭐️ the signature dry wit and style was intact but i felt like the quality of the writing dropped a little, and dexter was totally unlikeable, like im supposed to root for him as he cheats on and insults his wife? the premise and plot were pretty good, but that cliffhanger is loww

This felt like a real mess, with it working best under the assumption Dexter had degraded into an idiot and couldn't see all the obvious signs right in front of him. Out of the entire series, this was screamingly predictable from the beginning for me, so listening to Dexter repeatedly miss the clues slapping him in the face was just plain frustrating.
I was under the impression this was the final book in the series (with a name like that, I doubt I'm the only one that got confused) and so I was pretty peeved by the cliffhanger ending. Now knowing that there's another in the series it's not so bad, although I still am not a fan of cliffhangers in order to sucker people back in. I'll read it, but I don't have much hope for it after the events in here.

Really intriguing ending. It could go so many directions from here...
