I started reading this book to my 3 year old son, but landed up finishing up for myself :) Usually he sits through for a chapter or 2, and always wants to see pictures associated to the section I read. I wish there were more pictures to keep him hooked to the series. He likes the characters though i.e. Jared, Simon and Mallory and is interested to know what is happening with him. Hopefully in time, he will be able to understand more of the story.
That said, Lucinda's secret is yet another gripping and quick read. This adds more details and speculations and finally clues to what have happened to Arthur Spiderwick. Introduction of Lucinda was interesting. I saw the movie a couple of times, before I began reading the series, so I am able to spot some differences.
I believe in most of the cases, books always hold more details compared to that which is portrayed in movies. Encounter with the phooka and the elfs were interesting in this book (don't remember seeing this in the movies).
Overall a very good book, enjoyed it.

Can't imagine the whole series is made only into one movie! Haha.
i was expecting something sweet but we have a much darker story with these kids fighting for their lives. i love it.
Cliffhanger! Busting right through this series - it's so fun!
3.5 stars! Still super fun but not as good as the previous books. I want them to be longer so they can develop a little more. Still loving the pictures and art style though and find myself spending more time on the artwork than the story.

This book had a soft adventure in the second half so it felt like a bridge for dangerous things to come. Similar to the first book, there is potentially harmful language and events relating to mental illness, so be wary if you decide to pick up this series.
Jared hasn’t had a calm day since he angered Thimbletack. The pranks keep coming not only at Jared but also towards the house and now Mallory wants to destroy the Field Guide. A panicky Jared doesn’t want to destroy it and would that really be an option since they already know the existence of these mythical creatures. A visit to Aunt Lucinda later, the siblings find an old map and off they go to find what may have been Arthur Spiderwick’s last known place before he disappeared.
The events in this installment were not adventurous but felt more like an expedition. The siblings meet more mythical creatures aside from the griffin their housing and they aren’t as nice. The bond between the siblings is getting stronger and the trust is growing. There are multiple events in this book where the strength in their relationship gets them through some difficult moments. This book also introduces quite a few new characters and mentions one that maybe shows up later.
That said, the art and writing in this book is unique and captivating. The writing makes the three characters relatable and the art really helps with picturing the new creatures they meet. There are not many descriptions on the creatures which is a bit of a drawback.
Overall, I enjoyed this installment and it felt like the calm before the storm. Mallory, Simon and Jared are getting more curious about the creatures and the riddle to why the Field Guide is so sought after was just revealed. However, what happens now is a mystery until the next book and I’m looking forward to another great installment!
