It took me an age to finish this, as for some reason I put it aside for almost two years.
Anyway, I enjoyed this book, it gave Polly, Annie, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary-Jane their dignity back, and most importantly it didn’t dwell on their deaths. Consequently their lives define them; their deaths do not.

i love books like this, where you learn about the actual people, not the killer or the gory details of the killings. this is such a well written book and i really really enjoyed it.

The treatment of women whom are unmarried in the 1800s was disgusting. Sadly, women are still viewed this way by the majority. Even though the men in these women’s lives had a bigger role to play in their demise, the women were still labeled as prostitutes. I find this appalling especially because only one of them was actually working in the sex industry. The police did not care about these women and most people in society thought Jack the Ripper was doing society a favor. Women are still in danger today of being sex trafficked, killed, abused, and not seen as valuable. As a woman, I find this highly disturbing & I am absolutely screaming FUCK THE PATRIARCHY. It has never served us well. It is time to stand up for women & to stop using them as scapegoats for men’s actions.
A truly eye opening experience. This book is a must read for anyone wanting a deeper look into the heinous history of London. As someone who grew up hearing the story of Jack the Ripper, it appals me how wrong the common knowledge of the case is.
Honestly, I don’t have the words of thank or praise this author deserves.

This book restores the lives of five women to history - and in doing so offers up a stunning indictment of a society which to this day glorifies their murderer.
