Pretty complete end to the story but leaves an opening for The Dark Artifices - nice to see a melding of the other two series as well except I would like to see a genealogy!
It took me like a month to read this last book. It was good, I mean everything was wrapped up and the ending was sad. I thought the side characters (Emma & Jules etc) being introduced in this last book was a bit pointless as they were there to connect to The Infernal Device series.
Still have outstanding questions about Tessa & Jem though that I will google.

Damn this is a long one.
There’s nothing like finishing off a series. Nothing can compare to that rush of achievement and satisfaction when loose ends slowly get tied up, one after another -- joy in knowing that your beloved characters have finally fought off the villain and can finally have a moment of peace.
The Mortal Instruments series (with Infernal Devices in between) has definitely been a trip. Though I’ve spent most of the series complaining about everything under the sun, I still enjoyed myself, and I am still riding that high from finishing book 6. I mostly liked how it ended… I LOVED the little Infernal Devices tie-ins in particular. Anyway, without further ado, here are my thoughts from beginning to end.
-Emma starts our story off with her little prologue. Her POV is very fun. Her character is so fierce and strong, I fell in love with her immediately. I can’t wait to read Lady Midnight, and I think C. Clare is doing a great job of garnering interest for it by sprinkling little hints here and there about what Emma’s story will be like. The whole ordeal with the mysterious death of her parents, angry faerie arc, the jumping too quickly to be parabatai with Julian -- very obvious setup for The Dark Artifices.
-I was happy to see her with the blade Cortana. The more ID references, the better!
-The whole Alec x Magnus drama felt unnecessary. Their breakup was for stupid reasons, and the resulting drama just reaffirms that they were acting stupid. But I guess they needed a life or death situation (which is provided later) for them to realize that they love each other. I still love them - just didn't see why it had to be so dramatic.
-At least Clary and Jace are less annoying now that they have finally stabilized their relationship. Clary is a little less useless now that she has some training and experience, and Jace has somehow recovered from his teenage angst. Though it sucks that C. Clare milks the forbidden love thing till the end. Book: He can't kiss her because he's going to catch on fire! Me: Why.
-Simon and Izzy continue to be my favorite ship.
-Right after all the Shadowhunters haul ass to Idris, Simon gets kidnapped...again. He's taking lessons from the Princess Peach School of Getting Kidnapped at this point. This time, it's by Maureen, who was built up into a deadly and insane character -- who then gets killed in the most anticlimactic way imaginable. Too easy. Very disappointing. Anyway Simon gets rescued by Raphael, and via a series of fortunate events, he ends up in Idris where he can hang with the gang once more.
-Meanwhile, Jordan dies at Praetor Lupus, which is surprising, but… not unwelcome. I had major issues with Maia forgiving Jordan in the previous book. I don't know if he needed to die, but he was a loose end, in my opinion. And I think Maia x Bat have potential to be super cute. Maia also fades away into the background and becomes the new pack leader. Props to Maia, and thank goodness I won't have to juggle more POVs.
-Citadel gets attacked and Jace is literally bleeding fire. I guess heavenly fire is supposed to be a powerful and mystical, but I couldn't help but laugh. He's literally and figuratively hot! In being hot, Jace also brings Zachariah back from Silent Brotherhood, which makes me happy… ID! ID! ID! WOOOOOO!!
-Simon meets Izzy and Lord Montgomery happens. I love these two so freaking much.
-Simon also gets drunk and proclaims his love for Izzy. It's another moment of comedy, but at the same time… why? Filler.
-Meliorn does a bad thing and kidnaps all the other Downworlder representatives. I mean we all knew he was a bad guy, but seeing it finally go down was rage inducing. Bastard got what he deserved. Props to Alec for pulling the trigger.
-Sebastian visits Clary in her bedroom on that same night and sexually assaults her like the creep he is. I don't get offended reading about assault, but I do get very mad at the perpetrator!
-Thanks to Emma channeling her inner monkey, the gang get some inside information about the Clave’s decision to sacrifice J+C for the Downworlders and decide to go to Edom to save the hostages and stop Sebastian… Because in the YA genre, only teenagers are capable of saving the world!
-Thus the awesome fae scene happens, Alec shoots Meliorn's lying ass, Jace threatens vengeance, and Mark Blackthorn is found (but is unable to return). Mark later gets a message to the Clave that the Fair Folk have betrayed them. I hope he's a love interest in the Dark Artifices. Yeah my priorities are all over the place.
-How does the gang fuck up the whole secrecy business with the Seelie Queen? They knew they had to be careful, and yet the second they're gone, the queen sends a message to Sebastian that they're coming. D-U-M-B.
-In Demonic Idris, everything and nothing is as it seems. The world there is haunting and interesting. The idea of parallel dimensions is explored here, but not nearly enough. I definitely found myself wanting to know more.
-A series of unbelievable coincidences occur.
-Jace is guilted into releasing a pillar of flame, which Clary shapes into her sword, Heosphoros, using runes dating back to the beginning of the story. They try to keep their plan a secret, but that one mention right afterwards, where Clary looks at her glowy sword, kills it. I felt like it was obvious.
-Jace is dumb and activates the demon trap for the skeptron. Simon even told him that it was a trap and Jace’s only response is “I hate it when you're right.” Motherfucker almost got Izzy killed.
-Simon-ex-machina#1 saves Izzy. Then Jace and Clary have pre-final battle sex, and Simon and Izzy make out. Yeah, that already happened in Infernal Devices.
-They finally “sneak” into Demon Gard and things start to move very very fast. Skeptron makes a comeback and kills lots of demons. Alec finds Magnus and they love each other. Clary finds Sebastian and they almost make out. They manage to “trick” Seb with Clary’s womanly? wiles while she stabs him with Heosphoros. Seb turns back to Jonathan and there is some sadness. Magnus summons daddy Asmodeus and he TAKES SIMON'S IMMORTALITY AND MEMORIES in Simon-ex-machina#2.
-I cried a little during that last part. In case I haven't been obvious enough, I love Simon, and I want him to have a happy ending. I resent C. Clare a little for playing with my feelings like this, but I can feel better knowing that I have the Shadowhunter Academy to read. I am happy that he had another Simon-ex-machina moment, but the masochist in me kind of wishes that his amnesia would be a little more difficult to reverse, so that it would be more satisfying when he finally got his memories back.
-Tessa and Zachariah cameo at the wedding. :) :) :) :)
Anyway, let me finish, or else I'll be here all day.
I liked the way all the storylines resolved (aside from the ones leading to Shadowhunter Academy, Magnus Bane Chronicles, and Dark Artifices). Clary and Jace will finally catch a break and have sex every day. Jocelyn and Luke finally get married after having been in love for yeaaaars. I am ready to read a new story now. Finally!

Cassandra Clare when I catch you…..I’m sobbing over Simon’s memories and vampirism being gone all for him to be made a shadowhunter???? And his memories start to come back and he can be with Izzy again omg
I cried 5 times reading this book and the more I think about the beauty of it the more I want to cry.
Jordan Kyle’s death had me crying in bed and Maia’s reaction after the fact to everything. The cleverness of Clare and Jace deceiving Sebastian and using his need to be loved against him. The malec pining, angst, and ending was absolutely perfect.
I love revisiting this world and will sing its praises forever. It’s the same magic as I felt when i was 14. One of my favorite series to ever exist.
