This was just ok. I liked Memory Keeper's Daughter so was looking forward to this. But this lacked the captivating characters and the perfect depiction of guilt. Still flowery language, but without the delicate beauty that she did with the photography themes of MKD.

SPOILERS

The main character seemed to lack motivation and direction. Which I guess mirrored her life, but left this reader feeling like things were unfounded and/or over dramatic. Like telling about her brother's baby for no reason. Or lacking all self-control with her ex. Not sure if I'll go for another Edwards book or not. If so it will be pretty far down the line...a lot more on the shelf that would come up before I tried to see if another was more like LoD or MKD

A nice story, better than her last novel. Fun multi-generational stories.

Thought it would never end! First couple of chapter seemed like it was going to be a good read, however all the letters from way back when, drove me crazy! I keep wondering if the author was paid by the words! I almost didn't come back to finish the book! After I skipped the letters the last four chapters held my attention! Would not recommend as I never felt like i was connected to the book! Good thing for book club!

I love Kim Edwards and I think her writing is beautiful. She writes sentences that are so pretty I want to write them down somewhere to just read again sometime, out of context. This one was entertaining and full of emotion, though I cannot get past the one part where she actual references the cover of The Memory Keeper's Daughter and I was like ...lame.

This one could have had three stars but the ending was syrupy and trite. The writing was not dazzling, but the plot was interesting and at times compelling. Overall, it felt contrived. I did enjoy the history lesson on women's reproductive rights and suffrage.

This was alright ig. I'm getting kinda sick of family histories and lost families but that's not this book's fault. The ending seemed a bit disappointing and the protagonist was just unlikable in general. Also, the connection of the stuff she found isn't revealed at all. It's a 'meh' at best.

A disappointing read. The plot consists mainly of a woman who spends most of the book researching her ancestors.

I went into this expecting a story about the main character "finding herself. While that happened, I was also surprised by the mystery like storyline that led to many twists. Overall, a nice book to read.
