This collection has some of my favorite Sherlock Holmes stories, but the whole collection is solid.

Some are interesting, but I was surprised at how many of the mysteries are not good. "The Five Orange Pips" is just Holmes realizing that the KKK is murdering people in Britain. That's it. No one is caught, no justice is achieved, no one is saved. In "The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb," the villains just escape and that's it.
"The Adventure of Copper Beaches" was interesting, especially for the subtle hint that Watson thinks Holmes and Violet Hunter, the governess who asks him for advice and then help, could perhaps have been more than client and consultant.
I also was surprised that many of the stories are not in chronological order. Several towards the end are when Watson and Holmes are flat mates, but the ones at the beginning are after Watson is already married and moved out to live with his wife. I wondered if there's so weird heteronormativity at the basis of that--ensuring that readers know that at least Watson is straight early on.

I can't believe that I hadn't read any Sherlock Holmes novels, and now I am wondering what took me so long! I can see why Holmes has become such a timeless character, and I would have much preferred to read this classic in school than some others. There is much to be learned about deduction, induction, and logic from Holmes, while at the same time providing a series of entertaining and gripping stories.

Sherlock will forever be one of my comfort characters. This bundle includes a few of my favourite mystery's.

Rating: 3 stars
I had fun trying to solve the mysteries on my own (I even got some!), and there is just something innately enjoyable about Sherlock stories.

This was my first time reading a Sherlock Holmes book. I didn’t think It would be of interest to me but, I really enjoyed it. I liked how this particular book was full of relatively short tales of Holmes & Watsons investigations.
The chemistry between these two characters was pivotal to how the narrative was written. They understood each other so deeply, even on an unspoken level.
Not all the investigations were serious matters, the lighthearted cases were my favourite.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  I’m already on to my next Sherlock Holmes novel.
