What a beautiful and thought provoking book— not only is the prose fantastic, but each short story is accompanied by a jaw-dropping illustration by the author. A book I would read again!

What a strange and wonderful book by Shaun Tan. The short stories are myth like, magical realism and all tell a moral story. With the outstandingly beautiful illustrations, this is a picture book for grown ups. Just stunning.

Dog was my favorite, but Cat made me cry. Shaun Tan never ceases to amaze.

This is quite a cerebral book. It is a collection of fantastical stories and poems about animals. Each story and poem is followed by a beautiful, two-page spread illustration. The stories vary greatly in their emotional impact. Some move you to tears and others make you laugh. I have always admired Shaun Tan, but now I have even more respect for his genius brain. I'd love to use these for writing activity starters. I'll be posting a full review for this one soon.

A collection of peculiar and fantastical stories and poems on the themes of human behaviour and how we treat animals and nature. Personally, I adored the powerful images while the writing was a hit or miss.

Stellar book. I'm not sure if I've come across prose like this before. Wonderfully sparkling and intriguing.

Artwork is stunning.

need pildid on tõesti absoluutselt võrratud.

juttude osas olin ette kõhklev, sest esiteks pole ma pärast varajase lapseea Seton-Thompsoni- ja Teofrastuse-traumasid eriline loomalugude sõber, ja teiseks pole lühijutt ka üldse minu stiihia. aga kohe esimese jutu esimestest ridadest olin konksu otsas: "Crocodiles live on the eighty-seventh floor. And very comfortably, too. Plenty of filtered water, mud, swamp grass, climate control, fresh meat delivered twice a week, big long walls of uninterrupted glass, along which to follow the sun all day, slowly moving from east to west; such luxurious reptilian basking would never be possible on ground level.

Huh. This is one of the most interesting books I've read in a while. Still good though
