Meh. I normally like his books but Evans was whiney, John was an annoying know it all, Sarah made random appearances when they needed a chick. Both Morton and Drake’s storylines felt predictable. And it was just longer than it needed to be. Plus I feel like getting frozen, poisoned and drown in the space of 48 hours was a bit much for a single character to go through and not be dead.
A very compelling story, certainly writes in a manner that makes every aspect of the story believable even if it feels exceedingly far fetched. I have to knock it down though because I never felt a sense of urgeny whilst reading it, there was no real tension or any sense of concern for the characters.

Underrated book about conspiracies and global warming. As usual with Crichton books, I was drawn in immediately and had a hard time putting it down.
I enjoyed this book but feel that it was dancing around outskirts of ideas.
Perhaps I should have realized earlier in the book but. Just an egomaniac author who decided to use his fame to …checks notes…deny climate change. Reading this in 2025 sure shows just how wrong he was.
The story was somewhat interesting - although there's a very unnecessary romance in the middle of this thriller - but I couldn't enjoy the book while feeling lectured and talked down to by the ideological views of Michael Crichton.
Half the story it feels like you're being lectured to through the character of John Kenner as he talks about the evils of the Environmental movement and how people who claim to care about environmental causes are ignorant hypocrites. Although seeming to present arguments from a neutral point of view, it didn't feel that way to this reader. It was a struggle to finish this book.

I really like all of Crichton's books... except this one. There is just too much long winded preachy dialogue ... which gets annoying and also makes the dialogue unrealistic. He hammers his points again and again so often I lost interest, got fed up and skimmed over the multiple pages of speeches.
A very disappointing book.
