Platform Seven

Louise Doughty

3.07 AVERAGE

Lisa is a ghost, seemingly doomed to float around Peterborough train station, the scene of her untimely death. The station has its own community of staff and services, from the station manager to the British Transport Police officer, all with their own lives and concerns. Every day, Lisa watches hundreds of people pass through the station on their way to somewhere else until one day, she watches one take his own life on Platform Seven.
Despite its setting in a defined geographical area (first the station and then the wider city) this feels like a panoramic story , incorporating many tales of humanity, as Lisa, despite being dead, comes to understand the true nature of love.

Very slow start and end; once you get past the first 150ish pages, it picks up and really holds you. That being said, I really enjoyed the slow beginning and end - all round a very good and well-written book.

I had started this book a couple of years ago and then totally lost my reading mojo picked it back up this year and finished it, very good book written in a different way to what I’d read before but a really good read

This didnt head in the direction I thought it was going to go! I enjoyed it but it was slow in places

DID NOT FINISH

Long drawn out boring book.

This book took an incredibly long time to get to the actual plot but it was good when it was in the thick of it. But again it drifted off to be quite boring by the end.

The main chunk of the story is about Lisa's relationship with her abusive partner, so those chapters felt interesting. But the first 25% or so was just her wandering round the train station as a ghost describing what she sees.

A bit slow to start but I’m glad I stuck with it. This is a very sad story but exceptionally well done.
