I read the first chapter and him saying "everything that happens is the best possible thing that could happen to you" I laughed at. But by the end of the book I was truly almost in tears and so moved by this teaching. I have read other self help books but this one hit on a different level for me. I now try my best at finding the good in every situation and am grateful for the things that come my way.

This is a difficult book to rate. Depending on your take, the ideas of this book either 1) unlock the secrets of the universe; or 2) are so simple they are laughable.
I am going to split the difference and give it 3 stars - and if the ideas work after 3 months, I will considering upping it to 4 or maybe even 5 stars depending on how widely the universe opens up to me.
This book proposes a few basic ideas about finding happiness, and it basically boils down to the following premise: "Every event that befalls us, is absolutely the best possible event that could occur." Put another way, "Everything that happens to us only happens so that we can be benefited to the maximum amount possible."
Being a therapist who sees more complexity to human suffering that this, I could easily scoff at the idea. But I also see a possible truth in the simplicity of this. And being an active and practicing Mormon, this is very consistent with the tenants of my faith which basically say that God, in his infinite wisdom, views all of our life experiences - especially the difficult ones, as ways to give us experience that shall be for our good (Doctrine & Covenants 122:7).
So I am willing to go with it for awhile and see where it takes me. But . . if I vanish in 3 months, you will know I have transcended human experience and have become one with the universe.

I am disappointed in the people who recommended this book to me with such rave reviews. I must caution against the audiobook. It appears to have been recorded in one try only, so there are errors and constant rustling of papers as background noise. Each chapter starts with music which got annoying. I like some of Prentiss' messages but overall the book fell flat for me.

It was rough going in the beginning. There were many chapters that struck home, and have changed a small part of my thinking. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to find a little peace and happiness.

Have you ever had one of those moments when you realize that what you thought was right, but everyone told you was wrong, has been validated as right in the end?!? That's how I feel with this book. I have always been an optimist to a fault. I have always felt there was a lesson in every misfortune, and I have used this to make it through some hard times in my life. I was always told this makes me weak and easily taken advantage of.
I believe that if we as a people, all people would learn to be humble and kind the world would be such a better place.
This should be a required reading by all. Even if you don't agree you should be exposed. I loved it.
There is one negative I would give this book. Too much talk about the rehab center. I understand this is an accomplishment, but this book is not about rehab centers, and it somewhat felt like an advertisement.
