Very good writing and characterisation as always. The final act is a bit of a slog due to how obvious it is that Wallander is going to meet the killer and there's a good 100+ pages between when that's clear and when it happens; this didn't add tension for me it made the interim seem like a bit of a chore. That said though I still feel the need to give it 4 stars because the quality of the writing was so very, very good.
The pacing of this book was excellent, and it was really interesting being in the position of knowing who the murderer was whilst Wallander was clueless. There were a couple of plot threads that weren't investigated in a lot of detail; for example, why did Hoover scalp his victims? I'm not sure if that was ever established. Generally, though, it was a brilliant read and definitely a book that fans of crime fiction should try.

Vipper mellom 3 og 4 her. Svensk lydbok.
By far the most gruesome so far, at least IMHO. I really enjoyed it.

This is almost a 5 star read for me and probably the best in the series so far. The thing I like about Kurt Wallander is that he is believable and authentic. He’s skillful but modest, getting older and increasingly cranky.. a real human.
This fifth installment in the Wallander series builds in intensity throughout. It’s well paced and the story line is fairly believable too. The ending wasn’t quite right for me for some reason - hence the 4 stars. Overall fantastic tho
