Beautiful and has a lot to say but I found myself shaking my head and wishing ill on all of the characters.

Solid read. Tolstoy was certainly ahead of his time. Some of the feminist ideas are outdated by now but many of them aren't. I didn't like the last part--I wanted to know more about the characters.

Some recurring themes bothered me--the conflation of goodness and religion which was common for the time, for some reason Tolstoy's liberal use of
suicide
throughout the narrative really bothered me. When
Anna
did it we got a really good insight to her mental state but when
Vronsky
tries it, it's not described so carefully. It makes the teeming feel muddled.

I felt that the final part was full of character development that wasn't earned. This was overall the weakest part. Levin's
religious epiphany
didn't feel quite earned. I also think Tolstoy has odd opinions about children.

Some of my favorite parts were Kitty and Levin going to care for his brother and Vronsky's racing scene. I really think Anna was depicted as such a flawed but ultimately (mostly) a likeable person, and it was fun to get to know her. I really liked all the pondering and philosophizing, it's fun to get a snapshot of how people thought and what they thought about in a different time.

🦎We have a lizard man!🦎 Alexei Karenin, beautiful gamer nerd that you are. Never change.
🦎Although not fully a lizard man, Lenin definitely comes close at points. He kept me afloat during this whole venture.
I loved every person in this book: except the titular Anna. Tolstoy tried really hard to get me to like her, to no avail. Other than that, the colorful side cast filled the shoes of likeability the main characters were lacking, and I found it an overall pleasant experience.
