This book was very different than the previous three books in this series. This book was a lot of traveling and the characters discovering new things and setting up for the final battle. This book started in motion many things I think will have major impact on the last book. Also, this book had almost zero naughty bits, which is off for a romance, but I think because there was so much to do and learn it didn't matter that much. Also, sex is probably the last thing you think when you are in a war.

I am still head over heels in love with these characters and am so happy I finally got to this book (the ones I haven't read) finally. I did not enjoy this book as much as the first three, the whole first 3/4ths of the book felt like it dragged for me, I found myself skimming quite often. The drama picks up in the last quarter and I found myself in the familiar dramatic reading position (rocking back and forth with the book as close to my face as I can get it).

The ending is major, I even teared up a little bit. I have come so far with these characters it hurts me when they get hurt. I can't wait to dive into the last story so I can truly find out what happens. I also recommend reading this series in order, they all start almost exactly on each others heels and have very little fill in.

Queen of Song and Souls (Tairen Soul) A whole bunch of forward momentum as we see both foes and allies align as the Second Mage War takes a big breath, trembling on the brink of another wave of violence!

Some secrets are revealed, the danger cranked even higher and the fate of the world lays in Ellie's hands as she fights to understand her role in the the ultimate battle between Light and Dark. She also seeks to save the sanity of her Tairen Soul mate, Rain, who can only be restored by the completion of their bond.

Gosh this was great, I am in awe of the way Wilson has woven so many layers into this story, I just can't slow down in my eagerness to see the baddies exposed and the good guys finally get their due.

This penultimate installment give us so, so much, perfectly positioning the series for an explosive showdown...I can't wait!!

Being that there is so much going on in this series and that this is book four out of five I expected a lot to happen... And it didn't. I understand C.L. Wilson has an idea of how to wrap everything up but as a reader I just wanted to keep yelling "Ok, let's start getting things going!" Elysetta and Rain are wonderful main characters but I felt like they just repeated themselves over and over again. The fact that they still, after four books, have not completed their bond makes me want to stop reading. If it wasn't for the wonderful side stories I believe this would have been a DNF for me. The chapters with the elves are the best part of the book. I was also so surprised with the ending of one side story that I even cried! I really hope that the fifth and final book can wrap everything up with a HEA but at the same time finish all the side stories as well. This is really a great series and aside from this book a four out of five for me.

My heart!!! Oh man, there was literally no need for that whole Adrial and Talisa storyline. None at all, except to show how tragic Fey love can be.

Also, still so upset that Shan and Elfeya still haven't been freed yet, but I'm glad there's finally actual hope for their freedom.

Finally, my one question about all this is.... Why do the Fey need to have warriors if pretty much everyone is good? Are there Fey who are honourable but also not banished? If they have free will, don't they commit crimes too? The problem with making the Fey perfect is that it takes away me out of the story. Now I want to know if there's Fey prison! Or Fey men who don't want to be warriors? And who exactly are they always fighting?

The world building falls apart for me because the author has no grasp of scale. At one point she mentions that Rain hasn't been ruler for a long time. Then only says that he was suffering from madness for 300 years... Then what was he doing for the 700 years before meeting Ellie? How can there only be 40 000 Fey? That's the size of a super small village. This world is just way too tiny for the scope that the author is writing about.
