After finishing Jane Austen's The Watsons, I read the one concluded by L. Oulton. The writing was okay at first, but I was disappointed by the use of 'modern' language and the way the story ended.

I want to read the version completed by John Coates, but I can't find a copy of the ebook. If I'm in the mood, I will check out other completed versions.

The Watsons probably would have been an excellent novel. But as a fragment, it is probably of greater interest to scholars and completists than as a book. Everything you expect and want from Jane Austen is there--except a middle and an ending. Not her fault, but also not very satisfying to just read a bunch of exposition that does not develop anywhere.

This was a lovely start to what would have been an incredible story I think. I felt really connected with the characters and felt intrigued about where the story could go! I felt excited to read about the parties and the visitors to the house too!

I really liked the character of Emma and I really wanted to know more about her, so definitely wished it could’ve been continued.

Although this wasn’t a finished book, I loved it!

I wonder why Jane Austen decided not to finish this book? It had the makings, seemingly, of a good, classic Austen novel. I can’t guarantee that the plot or characters wouldn’t have gotten tedious had it continued into a long book, but as a fragment it was enjoyable and Emma was likeable.
