Harper, Jordan and Robyn stressed me out in this book as much as they did on screen, lol. I enjoyed this book though — it brought their continued mess to the pages.

I enjoyed the deeper dive into these characters and into their minds/pov. Harper is still Harper. Robyn is in Accra readjusting the post divorced life, finding herself and co-parenting Mia with Harper across continents. Jordan is still about her business. — the same ole love triangle… but that cliff hanger at the end.

Loved the cameo from our old friends Murch, Lance, Quentin, Candace and Shelby. Ready for  more.

I listened to The Best Man: Unfinished Business by Malcolm D. Lee, Jayne Allen and Narrated by
January LaVoy, Jakobi Diem, Zenzi Williams via Audiobook.

I'm a Best Man fan. I loved both movies and the mini-series. To be honest, I only got Peacock so I could watch the mini-series.

Unfinished Business was not what I expected. I missed that this was Book 1 of The Best Man trilogy. So that is why I was upset when the "Unfinished Business" was solved, but new unfinished business started as a cliffhanger. The novel was to long, almost 16 hours in the Audiobook was just to long for me. I felt things could have been cut out.

I loved that Jordan and Harper finally got together but didn't expect it to be only 15 days. I still don't understand Harper leaving to help his daughter translated in Jordan's head, to Harper not wanting to commit. I was happy that Harper tried to call, email, send flowers to Jordan even though Jordan did not respond and blocked Harper.

Harper going to Ghana helped him tremendously. I wasn't expecting Harper and Robyn to deal with their Unfinished Business: Solomon. But I'm glad they did. Harper finally faced issues he never wanted to address. I understand Harper and Robyn having sex to finally close their marriage. Getting a divorce doesn't mean a marriage is over. A divorce means a marriage is only over in legal terms not the husband and wife are over each other.

I love Harper friends: Lance, Quintin and Murch. They are great friends. They always give him the truth, tell him when he has done bad, called him out when he needed it and they always shared their love with him. I love how they waited for Harper to show his love for Jordan before they told him she moved to Chicago.

I'm glad Harper proposed. It definitely shocked Jordan but they love each other and need to be happily married.

I'm glad Robyn realized what was important in her life and that she closed her large restaurant and opened a smaller beach front restaurant. I definitely agree with Robyn, Kwesi should have told her he was still married just separated from his wife.

I don't believe I will keep reading The Best Man trilogy. Book 1 didn't keep me engaged to see what happens in Book 2/3. I just wanted it to have a great ending from a story that started in 1999 (26 years ago).

I enjoyed being with these characters again. I was back and forth about whether I was cool with Harper, but I guess that’s the nature of his character. The ending was something lol.

Jordan x Harper & Robyn x Kwesi

In the infamous words of Shelby, “The Gang’s All Here”, and oh how I’ve missed them!  This is my tribe, my generation, my people…a group of beautiful and successful black friends. A found family that are there for each other through the good, bad and ugly.   Celebrating wins, supporting each other through the tough times and calling each other on their B.S. when necessary.

This book picks up where the mini series left off.   We get a chance to catch up with Jordan, Harper and Robyn and what’s going on in their worlds.  Jordan is reinventing and prioritizing herself after crushing her career goals, Harper is flying high after his Pulitzer win and navigating the single life in the wake of his divorce and Robyn is bringing her dreams to reality while raising her preteen daughter in Ghana.  We get to see them navigate the next steps in their careers and love lives.  There’s drama, secrets, heartache and spice!

The author was so descriptive, it felt like I was watching another big screen production. I could see the characters’ faces and hear their voices throughout this read.  I laughed out loud, cursed at my e-reader and shed a tear or two.  If you are a fan of The Best Man franchise, you won’t be disappointed.

This was an immersive reading experience and the narrators really brought this novel to life.

Thank you to Net Galley and Crown Publishing for an Advanced Reader Copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review.

I LOVE the Best Man film/TV series, but this book was WAY too long-winded for me. It was repetitive and there was too many miscommunication tropes and they could've shaved 200 pages off this book.

I'm unsure if I'll continue reading the trilogy.

It was a slow burn read because your used to seeing the characters on screen. It became wordy trying to give us detailed nuances for the characters. Just make a few more seasons of the show on Peacock.
