Ryan North knows how to play with the backstory of the characters he gets to write. He has incredible fun with Squirrel Girl's backstory in his ongoing Squirrel Girl run, and here he goes back to the original pilot episode of Adventure Time back when Finn was called Pen and creates an explanation for a sleeping bag that disappears without explanation in it.

FUN FACT: I saw Ryan yesterday at a book signing at The Beguiling, a comic book shop in Toronto. I wanted to talk to him but my kids didn't and I didn't want to drag them over to the table because they were sort of embarrassed about standing in the middle of four local cartoonists and authors signing books and waiting for people to approach them. It's also weird when you go up and talk to people and you aren't going to buy their book. Honestly, Ryan, I would have bought Squirrel Girl Vol. 7 but I literally already had it in transit to my local library, so...

Anyway, I've read all of the Squirrel Girl comics that have been collected in trades (except for Vol. 7 which I'll be reading in the next day or two) and I'm making my way through Adventure Time now. After that I'll have to move on to Romeo and/or Juliet I guess.

This book is totally math! Ryan North continues to write spot on Adventure Time stories while adding his own sensibilities. The art by Shelli Paroline, Braden Lamb, and Mike Holmes is frenetic and could easily be screenshots from the show.

This book was tops blooby. As good as the show. Ryan North really "gets" Adventure Time and has no trouble capturing the characters' voices. His little "alt-text" asides at the bottom really make it, too.

A fun and silly time travel story, just up Ryan North's alley.
