4.5 stars.

Another great romance book from Christina Lauren. Last fifty pages were a little slow for me but the ending of romance novels always are for me. I really enjoy Christina Lauren books, they are all I want to read right now. It is my mission to read everything they have published.

I really enjoys this. I love a good green card love story and this did not disappoint. I listened to the audiobook and while the narrator could be a little monotonous at times, she had a great Irish accent when needed and that really added to the experience of listening. The 2 characters were relatable and sweet and I loved hearing how their relationship evolved. Christina Lauren are great writers when you need something yummy and sweet to read.

it’s been so long since the last time i’ve read a book by christina lauren. the story follows holland, an aspiring writer who works as an archivist for her uncles, and calvin, a talented irish musician who rescues her from a subway attacker. holland offers to marry calvin, who is in the country illegally, to help him stay. from there, their relationship starts to evolve from awkward roommates to lovers.

“she sees herself as a supporting character, even in her own life story.”

immediately upon reading the premise, i sensed that this book would turn out to be a charming romcom melodrama. the storyline began well, and it definitely delved into themes of self-acceptance, unreciprocated emotions, and the strength of love. while i anticipated a typical strangers to lovers story, i was surprised with the marriage of convenience trope. to be honest, some chapters felt unexpectedly lengthy and there were several dull moments, but it remained an enjoyable read for me.

the chemistry between the main characters is decent, and their small conversations throughout the book are entertaining. most of the side characters also contributed to the humor of the story. holland was an incredibly relatable character, and her dedication to her family is what i find most admirable. on the other hand, calvin made me giggle and kick my feet. he is very kind and gentle, a good man with pleasant personality—certainly a green flag. i also appreciate how he compliments holland so naturally. the feelings between holland and calvin are authentic, qnd their entire story offered me a fresh perspective on love.

overall, i rated this book 3.0 stars. this book is really a comfortable and heartwarming read. there are lots of moments i enjoyed—particularly the main lead’s journey in falling in love. this is truly a good experience.

This is a cute romance novel. Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite tropes so I was destined to enjoy this.
