While I appreciated the inclusivity of this book, I was left glazing over some parts. I honestly left like it was trying to be written for a scene adaptation instead of a book. Overall fun, liked the characters, and main villain was lack luster.

2.5 stars.

I really wanted to like this book, I tried very hard. I loved the diverse characters, vast majority are women or non binary people, the setting is cool, the concepts are cool, the indigenous species are cool.

Buuut this book introduced waay too many characters early on with little development making it hard to follow from the get go. The most intriguing POV and group was the indigenous peoples of the planet who we meet in chapter one then don't see them again till about half way and we get no more POV from them after the first chapter even though they are the most compelling part of the book.

Throughout the book we meet a variety of characters who are often built up then left behind all in one or two chapters.

The antagonist started off interesting then was disappointingly underdeveloped and her ending/climax was cliche and underwhelming.

I think it would have been much better with an Emissary POV throughout, consistent character development with our main cast and less so with side characters who are barely in it, and more of a backstory of the antagonist's history so we understand her motivations better.
