So, I figured out the end before the end... Joe was just too weird to let Beck continue as she was, and I totally got that early on.

I wasn't a fan of how the murders in the story were portrayed. I found that the planning or the work that went into the decision of how to end their lives was just not thought out well enough, and I wish we had more of a story to tell with each one of those.

This is definitely dark and twisted, overall it was pretty good and I can't wait to read more because I think this could turn into an interesting plotted series...

Good book! I really enjoyed joe as a character and enjoyed his dreaming and wishes of mundane love things that everyone dreams about, which makes him personable and great as for beck I couldn't stand her, she is a terrible character but I imagine that is the point all together it was worth the 4 stars

This audio was really good it was read in that really dry Joe voice.

If you have seen the tv the book is very similar. I’m excited to continue on the series.

"I know when you need your space. That’s why I got the beard."

I hate this man so very much. Nothing is his fault, he's totally perfect and not an awful person. Fuuuuuck you Joe Goldberg!

Otherwise, writing is good, story kept me hooked, but none of the characters were likeable, and the deaths were mostly 1 to 2 sentences long. I would totally read something else by this author, but probably not anything in this series

At 30%: Nearing DNF - does not grip me...
Two of my friends / people I follow said it very well:
Chelsea Humphrey's 3 star-review
and
this 2star review from Ari.

The cover my edition shows is for the Netflix TV-series. That series, and the blurb is what made me buy this book, I wanted a stalker, but would have liked the roles reversed (female stalker, male victim).
But given that this book is rather long, I already started another one, which is a sure hint towards DNF for me. Will try to watch more episodes (currently only the first seen) of the TV-show and then decide wether to abandon this or not.
The first episode was imho 1:1 like the part of the book, but maybe it is not such a waste of time to watch that in contrast to grudgingly and reluctantly reading it?

Oh, and the book I started? Pre-ordered, and just published, short and suspenseful:
[bc:Keep This to Yourself|41967043|Keep This to Yourself|Tom Ryan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1541558286s/41967043.jpg|60160111]

Back to "You", DNF at 30%, jumped to 80% then skimmed or FF till the end.
Worst book I picked so far, and now I even dread watching more Episodes from the TV series,
although I might still watch 2 more to decide wether it is worth finishing it.

As this is a book about a stalker this should have been my kind of book, but I did not look all (!) characters and even though I could relate to some of the books and most of the movies (Pitch Perfect), this bored me out of my mind. Would have liked a female stalker more.

No Suspense, no good writing, will never pick up a book from this author again!

The premise of this book is essentially the perils of dating in the age of social media, but with a particularly sinister twist. It’s a topic I’ve rarely seen covered well, and generally I enjoyed this read. Please be aware this is very much an adult book, not suitable for younger readers.

You is an incredibly well-written novel – full of witty remarks, twists and turns, and some shock surprises. I felt the tension, I had heart-racing moments, and on more than one occasion I wanted to theatrically shout, “he’s behind you!”. Kepnes’ writing is so razor-sharp, it’s hard to believe that this is a debut.

As much as I enjoyed this read overall, at times it could be very slow-going. While Kepnes’ writing itself was excellent, the storytelling aspect could at times be very slow, either due to pacing, or because we are essentially in Joe’s head – the thought processes could be very erratic, and at times feel like a stream of consciousness – which builds a great character, but can make the text difficult to follow.

Unfortunately, the ending of this book hinted at a sequel, and when I checked out Goodreads it was confirmed that there would indeed be a follow-up to You. I felt disappointed, this would have made a much stronger standalone, and I’m not yet sure if I will be continuing with the series.

And with this my 2023 A-Z challenge is complete! I have wanted to read this book since watching the Netflix show and just never got around to it. But, luck would have it that Book Outlet had this book as a deal so I snagged it immediately knowing I would use it as my Y pick this year.

Joe Goldberg is in love and it’s all because Guinevere Beck walked into his bookstore and stole his heart by walking into the F-K section. So how does a guy like Joe get with a cool girl like Beck? By stalking her and becoming her perfect man of course! The twists and turns in this will keep you guessing and Joe’s obsession with Beck becomes darker and darker. Until Joe has no choice but to show Beck just how amazing he really is.

This is a deep dive into the mental illness of a guy like Joe. It was weird at first and none of the characters are even remotely likable. Joe especially does not have the same charisma as Netflix Joe but he still worms his way in and you cannot put this book down. I literally needed to finish it because I had to know what was going on in Joe’s head and how he would justify all of his actions. If you like a psychological thriller this book could be for you, but know that it’s not for everyone.
