If you look at a list of 'books for new managers', this one is on most of the lists. It's a very basic look at how to be a manager for the first time.

A helpful, concise book

I liked how many of the topics discussed came up during my first month managing people. The advice was pragmatic and helped me decide how to handle difficult situations. I can tell that I'll be revisiting this book quite a bit in the coming years.

Practical and informative, probably for all kinds of managers. Very focused on a certain kind of company structure, though. (Nothing at all for a situation where you're a manager where there's almost no structure around you.)

Quality advice. I do think there are some things the author did not take into consideration though. For example, the author mentions doing work based on your circadian rhythm, but does not take into account that women and men have different rhythms. Men tend to be on a daily rhythm, while women tend to be on a 28 day rhythm.
