This book kept my interest but I don't feel like I learned anything new. I also wish the ending felt more complete. I didn't care to hear from the psychology professor at the end... nor at the beginning, come to think of it.

if you can ignore the juvenile prose and the slight narcissism, this book is really unique insight into serial killers minds. I will say though I didn’t learn much as obviously i expected serial killers to be depraved but it was still interesting to see how the author would interact with the killers and actually developed sympathy for them.
This book messed me up mentally, I don’t think it’ll ever fully leave me. So captivating I was flying through pages in a way I haven’t in a while.
It's been a looooong time since I read this... in fact, I think I still lived in California when I read it but I recall it being thrilling. I should re-read it.

This book is super disturbing, yet endlessly fascinating. The author, who was 18 at the time, found a way to actually get convicted serial killers to become pen pals with him. Dahmer, Manson, Gacy...they all wrote him back, which was unusual in itself. But he ended up visiting Gacy in jail, and it was as terrifying as you would think. I don't know what made me choose this book, as I don't typically go for true crime stories, but I'm glad I did!
Very addictive. Really got me thinking and gave me a different view into the minds of serial killers.
