hmm. i read the first half of this book then switched to audio book. i enjoyed both to an extent. nothing incredible, but definitely interesting. the format reminds me of daisy jones and the six, which is one of my favorite books of all time. nothing like the brad pitt movie. there was one standout anecdote/interview near the end about a downed female pilot. this one stands out above all the others as exceptional storytelling - both prose-wise and in terms of the actor-narrator’s performance.

Picked up because I was in a mood for zombies around when The Last of Us season 2 was coming out. This was more geopolitical spec fic (but based on 2006 geopolitics) than zombie thriller, and I think that’s good, I’m glad it embraced that. Interesting to read with the hindsight of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Because it’s written as an oral history series of recorded interviews, the audiobook is a higher form for this than paper copy.
