I like this series a lot, but I just didn't understand Rafe's motivations in this book. It all kind of felt a little bit flat even though I really liked the both of them.
Tessa Dare + beer + cake = true love for me. I waffled back and forth on the H and h's siblings, but I think I've landed firmly in the "when do they get their own books" camp, especially Piers and Phoebe.

Poor Clio, she was proposed to one day eight years ago and has heard nothing from him since then. Clio had enough and is going after Piers to break off their engagement. The only thing is that his brother, Rafe, stands in her way and oh do sparks fly between Clio and Rafe. Of course, they are both in denial about it. Clio made it clear that she does not want to be connected to his brother, and Rafe is determined to make the two marry within the month.
To accomplish this, he decides to start wooing her, but in the name of his brother, because the marriage what happens. What neither of them expects of course is to start falling for each other. While they are blatantly honest with each other, the two do not expect to work and bounce ideas off of each other. Rafe loathes that Clio is his brothers. He wants her, but he’s always wanted what his brother has had, Clio is no different.
But it’s more than that! Rafe actually falls in love with Clio and not only does he fall in love with her, but he also starts to woo her. To the point, while listening to this book, I was sighing out loud. I think part of them always knew they cared for the other person, but Piers was constantly in the way. Although he wasn’t in the picture for eight years, Rafe is still aware of the proper boxes that everyone belong in. What Dare does well is write a strong, yet slow burn. It was so so good between Clio and Rafe that it got to the point I wanted to push them together and yell “KISS!”
What I also enjoyed was that Clio and Rafe are two excellent standalone characters. They don’t need each other to survive, but they are so much better with each other. While Clio wants to run her own brewery, what she enjoys is that Rafe doesn’t laugh at her when he finds out. Her family does, they believe that she’s lying to them, but Rafe doesn’t think it’s funny. He sees how much Clio can stand on her own and be her own person. What neither of them wants to believe however is how good they would be together.
One of the things I adore about Dare’s writing is that she isn’t afraid to write humor, snarky humor with realistic banter. It makes me want more of the characters and this period.

Say Yes to the Marquess is my second Tessa Dare title and it’s nowhere near the last of her books I’ll read. I think her Castles Ever After series was a perfect introduction to the world of historical romance. They’re a little lighter, a bit naughty and a whole lot of fun. I can’t wait to read the third book… especially since getting an ARC of it was what launched me into my HR frenzy. :) (Soon. Very soon.)
Both Clio and Rafe were were fantastic characters. It’s probably weird to say this as a fan of romance, but I loved how he was trying to push her off on his brother, despite the feelings he had for her. I had every suspicion it would never happen and I think that’s the real reason I enjoyed it so much. It wasn’t like it was a true triangle, which make me kinda twitchy more often than not. These two just had fantastic chemistry. I loved how playful they were and their banter was top notch. It was sweet and romantic and the sexy times were steamy. I don’t think it’s possible to read this book without a grin on your face.
Say Yes to the Marquess is the perfect combination of awesome. I laughed, swooned and even teared up a little. I loved the characters and the relationships. The setting was described such that I felt like I was there with them. This was a fantastic addition to the Castles Ever After series!

Not my favorite Tessa Dare book. This is the story of Clio, who's been engaged for 8 years to a man who's off being a diplomat. He's about to return just as she's inherited a castle and can see a new future for herself. And naturally part of that future is Rafe, the brother of her betrothed.
I'm not totally sure what didn't work for me. Clio and Rafe were both, you know, fine. I just didn't get overly invested in either of them or their story. There were some good moments, and it almost won me over with the scene with many cakes, but I still couldn't get into it.

The first one was better, but this has better secondary characters. Let's wait and see what is going to happen in the next installment in this series....
Il primo libro mi é piaciuto di piú, ma in questo ci sono dei personaggi secondari piú interessanti di quanti ce ne fossero nel primo, ora stiamo a vedere cosa succede nel terzo volume di questa serie....

Very fun and very quick read. Clio is a great protagonist. Her sisters are also good characters. I really hope there’s another book about Phoebe. The scene where Clio can’t fit in any of the wedding dresses because her sister purposefully gave smaller measurements to shame her in to losing weight was heartbreaking in a real way where typical romance novels are not. This is not the first Tessa Dare novel where there’s been scenes that I’m very attached to that aren’t typical romance fluff.
This one was adorable! Got a bit muddy about 3/4 of the way through, but that just seems to be the standard for romances for me.
