READ IN DUTCH
I was a bit disappointed by this first boek about Gretchen Lowell. I had expected it to be a bit more, and for some reason - till this day I have no clue what reason - I thought Chelsea Cain was British. As soon as I started reading - the writing style and story line are both very American - I found out I was wrong. That was a little disappointment to me. But somehow, I got curious enough to read the second book as well (and I've just read the third). So, that means, there must be something in the story of this books that makes it worth reading them... I liked the other books better!

Holy shit this book. How sick is it that I was sooooo satisfied by the

If I could give this book negative stars, I would.
This was quite possibly the worst book I've attempted to read in my adult life. I tried, I really, really tried to give this book a chance, but I couldn't make it past page 100.
The characters were dull and cliched. The plot was slow-moving and boring; it takes real effort to make a book about a serial killer this BORING. The author just tried too hard. She spent too much time setting the scene with completely irrelevent details.
Simply awful. But I'm counting it towards my 52 books total because I feel like I suffered enough just getting through those god-awful 100 pages.

Another compelling mystery. I'm completely in love with Susan and Archie as characters. And all the supporting characters as well. And Gretchen. Wow. She is terrifying. Which is awesome.
My only complain would be that I was hoping for even more backstory on the Beauty Killer case. That feels like it deserves its own book. In fact, I assumed this couldn't be the first book simply because it began with Gretchen in prison. Excited to read the other novels in the series!

A well-written page-turner that someone can get lost in. I listened to this on audio book and couldn't wait to get back in the car and listen to more of Archie's story. I will definitely read the rest of this series.

Amazing, doesn't seem right. It is simply an incredible read. Chelsea Cain has created gripping characters while not sacraficing any of the plot. The story centers around three very diverse individuals. Grethen Lowell, a serial killer, who just might scare Hannible Lector, Archie Sheridan, a detective held hostage and tortured by Gretchen and lastly Susan Ward a newspaper reporter with own sorrows. It was great book and I'm anxious to see what the next story brings.
Suspend disbelief and you can enjoy this. There are a few plot holes bugging me still though.
