This series was just okay, though I did like The Fates Divide more than Carve the Mark. This was a book that was a pretty entertaining read at times and did a good job of wrapping up the story, but it did end a bit abruptly. The story itself was pretty good too, but there were parts that dragged. I can’t say a whole lot about it beyond that it was a fine book, but nothing all that amazing. Also, I did really like the fate vs free will arguments that the book brings up, because that’s a pretty interesting discussion.

That was just bad.
But I admit that the idea behind it had potential...

So, I did not realize this author also wrote the very popular series Divergent until I finished this book and was so confused as to why many people were mentioning this series in their reviews... So random, I thought. Until I learned the truth. I have not read Divergent and know nothing of the series. So here is my very unbiased opinion about this duology series:
This right here, is my shit. I loved it. I have been waiting so long for a book like this one; one that has adventure, politics, complicated plot lines, complex and NOT perfect characters, with just the right amount of romance.

Maybe I’ll read this Divergent series everyone else is taking about. I heard there’s a movie, too!!!

I feel soo bad for giving this book such a low rating, but I really didn't enjoy it. I think I should've stopped reading it and put it as dnf instead. It somehow felt repetetive and boring.

I really enjoyed the audiobook version! No idea why it took me so long to finally dive into this sequel but I'm not mad after finishing it.
That being said The Fates Divide was a pretty sequel. I didn't realize how much I missed all the characters until a chapter or two into this book. That being said, just being okay doesn't mean I wasn't completely disappointed or anything. Which, I was to a point but I guess I'm a bit more content with it all now. Days after finishing it and really thinking about it all I'm just kind of hoping/wishing we get some spinoffs now.
New to the gang of POVs are Cisi and Ejeh. I absolutely loved Cisi. She's kind of my spirit animal because she was cunning, manipulative, and overall fascinating throughout the book. I was really excited when I got to her parts because I just wanted to know more about her. Ejeh was also a nice addition to the book but not my favorite out of all the characters.
Other than that, I still love all my babies from the first book and enjoyed everything that happened in this one. If I could change on thing it would be the pace of the entire book. Never thought I would complain about things moving way too fast for me - usually it's how slowly things are dragged - but I would've liked some chapters to simmer down a bit. Let my brain catch up to what was actually happening every now and then.
In the end, I enjoyed the book and look forward to my next book by Veronica.
