Part two of the duology was exactly what I was expecting! It definitely made me happy to know that I was CORRECT in my assumptions from book #1, but it still continued to hold my attention to the end. I still stand by saying this would make a good film. This one is written from FOUR narratives---Cyra, Akos, Cisi, and Eijeh. The whole thing with Eijeh was interesting in how it culminated. As usual thought, the leads did a "woe is me" period of time that made you want to smack them.
*There is same sex relationship in this book of one set of characters--hinted at in book 1.
*Akos and Cisi take their relationship to the "next level" but it's more heavily implied rather than described.
*the series does have violence but it's not gory.
3 Stars
I wasn't as happy with the second book. But honestly that's normal with most series. ;)

There was all this build up, for it to feel so quickly over. Felt like nothing too special to it, nothing that shocked me. It was still good, and I still recommend the read
I have so many words and so few at the same time.
I am often wary of duologies as they have a tendency to feel rushed and disjointed, like what should be 3 or more books crammed into just 2. That is not so with this series. Roth is a masterful writer, including small details that don't add to the story and also don't detract, but that help you really see what's going on in your mind. I was able to predict just enough to keep me connected and there were just enough twists to keep me engaged. The character development. All the things. It was so rich and beautiful. No doubt in my mind that this book deserves 5 stars.

I felt The Fates Divide was mediocre compared to Carve the Mark. What I found great about the first book was the dynamic between Cyra and Akos, and this is lost in The Fates Divide when the two are split up for most of the book. The two characters are separated by different conflicts and I would have preferred them work together to take on one thing at a time. While it still kept me mostly entertained, the overall story kind of felt flat.

I’m in love with the real & rawness of this story. Even though I feel like the main plot twist was predictable (I imagined it could be what happens while still reading book one), I love how realistic the reactions, actions taken and emotions of all the characters were. I will hold many characters in this story close to heart for years to come. (Except Ast. I’d punch him if I could.)
