I really liked this. This duo-logy is different than Divergent. More of a slow burn, where Divergent (at least the title novel) is more of a can’t-put-it-down kind of book. This is more political. But it’s good. I loved the characters, and how Roth demonstrates their strengths and weaknesses alike. Well done, and this book was an excellent companion to the first.

I was glad to continue on the journey with the characters and be back in the world. This book focuses more on the characters and how they perceive the world that they live in instead of building the world. This book also has a much slower pace than the first book in the series even though there are a lot of very intriguing ideas brought up regarding the war that is brewing and all of the various alliances being made. I felt that a lot of these ideas where brought up and then never looked at on a deeper level and in fact we sort of just wasted because they were under developed. The end of the novel both ties everything up nicely and also leaves a lot unexplored making it sort of underwhelming overall.

“I was tempted to call Akos a friend, but it seemed too simple for what he had been to me, too small a word.”
slow-paced

A solid finish to this duology! A lot of angst and violence but who doesn’t love angst and violence?! Although I can see why these aren’t very popular or well liked I’m easy to please

It's no Divergent series, but at least the author didn't make the same decision with her heroine Cyra as she did with Beatrice "Tris" Prior.
