3.5!
While I didn't love this book as much as the first I still enjoyed it!
I found the pacing to be quite slow at least in the beginning and so it took me AWHILE to get this one finished, unnecessary description for things that didn't need it as much as others took up a lot of this novel that made it harder for me to really get into it. But I thought Roth created a very unique and beautiful universe that I was happy to be able to explore more of in this novel!
As well I loved Cyra and Akos and I was excited that I could watch them both grow as people, together and apart. It was interesting to see the paths they both took in comparison to the first novel.

I loved Carve the Mark, like it was amazing, but this book just ‘meh’ for me.

This book did pick up a bit more from the first book 'Carve the Mark', but I still felt like I didn't or couldn't really connect with the characters.
The last third or so of the book picked up a bit, but I didn't really care about the outcome. The ending was neatly tied up, so I'm assuming there will be no further books in the series, but if there is I wouldn't invest in reading.

"No, it wasn’t pretending I wouldn’t get knocked down that protected me, but the knowledge that I would get back up as many times as I had to."
I did not enjoy this book as much as Carve the Mark. The first book obviously involved a lot of world building, but this second book could have taken place over the course of a few weeks. I enjoyed the writing, especially from Cyra’s point of view.
Here are my thoughts after finishing it:
-Cyra continues to be a badass
-
-I appreciated learning that when writing this book, Veronica Roth wanted to show what was going on in other points in the galaxy, and the way that she did that was through the visions that the oracles had.
-Isae is hurt, and she gets to be upset, but she’s playing war like a child would.
-I have never understood someone as much as some of these characters understand each other. Some of that comes from the connections of their currentgifts, but it’s pretty cool.

Spoiler
The surprise about some of their fates makes so much sense, but I didn’t see it coming-I appreciated learning that when writing this book, Veronica Roth wanted to show what was going on in other points in the galaxy, and the way that she did that was through the visions that the oracles had.
