Where do I start.....this is a very yikes premise but specifically the rape aspect. If you took that out, it would have gotten at least 4 stars from me. It is a similar vein to Captive Prince but somehow even worse because of all the shit going on and the many layers of the plot. Sometimes less is more but most importantly, the author's rape fantasy fetish or whatever ruined the story. It shouldn't even be labelled as a romance in any aspect. I'm so upset that I didn't heed the warnings and read it anyway. It really could have been a good story without (1) the rape plot (2) the age gap. There's my opinion. Wish fandom spaces of mxtx's novels would stop recommending 2ha. It paints mlm in a horrible light actually. I mean, the genre in an of itself is problematic so I shouldn't be surprised but I was so taken with mdzs and tgcf that I let myself get bamboozled.
I have never suffered so much emotional pain from a novel in all of my life, and I've read hundreds of books...
I don't think I'll ever recover from this.

I‘m… a simple person. I read RLY messy shit set in a magical word with a hot villain and a deeply emotional and painful story line and I go AWOOGA. Seeing the exact length of the novel makes me realize why it took me an entire week or two to read through.

also !!! chu wanning !!! my beloved !!!!!! i love him so so so so much everyone always talks about mo ran’s development which is with no doubt amazing but the way wanning changes throughout the novel deserves more attention than it gets now. he’s such a comfort character for me i think everyone should read this novel at least for him 😩

The plot was so masterfully crafted. The reveals took me by surprise so often and yet when I looked back I could see all the crumbs that the author has left as clues.
The beginning was so fast-paced and gripping. The fluff romance moments made my teeth rot with sweetness, the comedic relief moments had me rolling with laughter, and the angst was honestly leaving me in depths of despair.
The characters were so complex and multifaceted; there wasn't a single flawless person, yet I couldn't stop falling in love with so many of them.
Truly a masterpiece in its genre!
