I think everybody and they momma should read this book!
I will say it was a little rough for me starting out, as it was a little slow but, it was well worth it in the end. It really shines a light on the idea of what being deaf is and the experiences they encounter on a daily basis. As a person of hearing, I appreciated how much I learned from this book and could actually take away. Reading is fun but I also love when there are nuggets that I can take away from a book, and this one had plenty. We were able to see how exactly a young adult, who is deaf, navigates the world and grows. Learning more about deaf culture through this book was nothing short of amazing and certainly a great experience.
To top it off, the audiobook was *muah, chefs kiss* and I am so glad I listened to it. It gave the book a completely different vibe as you were able to experience the times where the FMC was not able to understand what someone was saying. It made me connect with her on a deeper level. I also can appreciate that the author herself is deaf as well and I think it is amazing that she wrote about something so personal to herself.
5 stars and I hope more people will pick this up!

This was such a sweet book and an amazing example of why the deaf community/culture needs to be represented.
This book gives a million reasons why we need to be more accommodating to all abilities, and I hope the deaf community feels seen and heard through her story.
It was definitely a coming of age story, and the romance was minimal but still present. It's just a sweet story of a young woman trying to find her way while being immersed in a summer camp for all abilities. I loved the emphasis on how wrong it is to have non deaf creators profiting from ASL and how important it is in school and social media to provide deaf translators, teachers, and creators to learn from.

Lilah is partly deaf, meaning that she doesn't belong in either the hearing or the deaf world. She has trouble with conversations, but is not fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) either. She takes a job as counselor at a deaf and blind camp. Will she be able to find her place?
I really enjoyed this book. The story was clear, not outstanding in that way, but easy to read and enjoyable. I especially valued how the author portrayed Lilah as a deaf person finding her way in the world. The way she was empowered and found her identity and her own preferences is very inspiring. It also gave me some insight in how difficult life can be, even though it is not visible from the outside.
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Young Readers for granting me this ARC. All opinions are honest and my own.

I love a YA summer camp book, despite the fact that I only went to summer camp twice growing up! This book had lovely representation as well as a fun summer camp romance. It taught me a lot about Deaf culture, degrees of deafness and how people choose to communicate, and more. I definitely enjoyed this one and am looking forward to this author's second book coming out later this summer!
An awesome middle grade book! I learned a lot about deaf culture and ableism. If you enjoyed The Silence Between Us, this is another great read! While there is a heavy emphasis on deaf identity, there’s a sweet summer romance to enjoy as well!
Loved the audiobook and how they included how it sounds like for partially deaf people hear. If you read this then read the author’s note as well.
