I had high hopes for this book after reading the Knockemout series, and it left me disappointed. As this was one the very first books Lucy Score published I will file it as a failed pancake, but she's got the recipe right. My main issue is not with her writing, but with the characters.
Both main characters have some serious issues which in the real world would be huge red flags, Luke is possessive, creepy and too immature, it's almost impossible to believe he's this great military leader who is capable of sacrificing himself for his team. Whereas Harper has some serious attachment disorder born from her childhood trauma, and this is not worked through in the story, she completely changes her personality and gives herself fully to Luke. Real life domestic violence cases have the exact same dynamic.
The title is so true to it, she's 'pretending' as in she's changing and molding herself to fit him, and with 'mine' he's being possessive over her claiming her as his and only his.

This was a really good book, I loved all of the characters in it. The story wasn't slow at any point. The new friendships that developed were great. I could NOT put this book down.
I’ll be damned if you ever catch me saying “I love you” to a man who REFUSES to say it back but INSISTS on calling me baby.
