Oh my god!! šŸ˜šŸ˜This book was golden, I don’t care what anyone says about it. Fucking golden. I adore the way Lucy Score made it proper trauma main character, like it was a perfect mix of perfection and perfection. Also, I adore the way the book ended. I love Luke with all my heart, like everything!!

When this book showed up as a recommendation I was hesitant. I am not a huge fan of romance novels as I usually find them to have a weak story behind a lot of smut. But I picked it up anyway and I am so glad that I did!

The characters are well developed. The story line is deep and goes well beyond hot sex. I really enjoyed this book and found it very hard to put down.

Tropes:
* ā€œTouch her and dieā€
* One bed / forced proximity
* Fake dating
* Witty banter
* Small town romance
* Long distance relationship
* Found family

I did not like this book. Could not get into it. Did not like the writing. Would not recommend. Idk I couldn’t care about Luke being a hometown hero and all of the other parts.

Not my favorite Lucy Score but I liked the women in this one. And, her chemistry (between characters) is always hot. It's worth reading to lay the groundwork and continue the series -- I enjoyed books #2 and #3 more!

Themes and tropes:
- Small town
- Forced proximity
- Semi-grumpy/sunshine (feisty FMC)
- National Guard
- Past traumas
Spoiler CW: child abuse, death of a spouse... The book also opens with someone in a domestic violence situation (no graphic details of anything)

Loved this book so much. I laughed, and cried

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy as they’re released with new covers.
I was really excited to see the Benevolence books re-released with new covers! I hadn’t read some of LS’s earlier books so this was a fun read. There was a lot of good spice, characters that were beautifully flawed and so loveable, and so many supporting details that made the story hard to step away from.
I loved Luke and Harper and this little town.
