Such a fantastic story. Like all of Lucy Score’s novels, there are multiple story lines. Love, lust, tragedy and thrills. Two unlikely people fall in love in such an untraditional way. Steamy and wholesome. I LOVE Harper and Luke! 1000% recommend

This was a saga! Okay so, I'll start with what I liked:

- The chemistry/rapport between the two MCs was great and established from their first meeting, I liked how it was kind of friends-to-lovers rather than adversary vibes
- The world building, the small town of Benevolence and the whole Garrison family was really well set up and created the impression of the close knit community without TOO many characters/names to keep track of
- The refreshing change of pace in terms of plot: the first 40% is establishing their relationship and then Luke gets deployed so Harper is on her own for a whole chunk in the middle which was interesting. I would have liked to see maybe a few more emails between them a la Kate Canterbury just to keep that iron in the fire but still it was good.
- Harper generally was a great character who knew her own mind. While at times I thought she was a little bit TOO generous towards Luke when he was being a dumbass, she was well-written enough that she could ride it out whereas on a less self-assured character it would have come across a bit pathetic.

Things I enjoyed less:
- The sex between them was always quite frantic which is fine but on almost every occasion it was suggested that it was a bit painful for Harper but I felt that it wasn't done in the way it normally is of liking rough sex etc. I just feel like things would have been a lot better if they'd whacked out some lube. Also the sex scenes were a bit repetitive and all similar to each other, they never really slowed down. Lucy Score's sex scenes are good generally but I do feel like they err on the side of porn-y with the way the heroes act, the frequent lack of condoms and the literal unflagging erections.
- Luke. Lucas Wilde. I really liked him at the start and I understood he had Dead Wife Trauma but he was SUCH a hurtful dickhead in the last act - intentionally! - and took WAY TOO LONG to pull his head out of his ass. He also didn't really have to grovel at all really because Harper loved him so much and was just uber understanding? I would have liked them to have a meaningful conversation about Karen, especially as Luke's main issue is communicating his feelings so that never got meaningfully resolved other than a short declaration in the LAST CHAPTER. For such a long book, the fact that the reconciliation was all in the last chapter annoyed me too.
- I think this might now be signature for a Lucy Score book but there was a lot of random external conflicts that kept popping up like the guy breaking into her house and the psycho from her past that popped up at the end. I know they weren't actually random but in the course of the already long and emotionally eventful book it was like you didn't know what to focus on.

TLDR: An enjoyable enough book but quite a bit of drama and the 3rd act could have been handled better. Communication is key!
