This is the story of the author and her (mostly) tame coyote, Charlie. At times it was tough to read as she discussed the hunting of coyote in Wyoming as they are seen as a menace. I understand she was pushed into writing this book when she did, and I know she has her blog, but I kind of wish she’d waited a bit before publishing. This book is only about their first year together and while that is when they form their relationship (which this book is primarily about), I’m sure the adventures have continued.
I do agree with some other reviewers who comment on the author’s self-congratulatory statements. I also noted that, though she does acknowledge and address her own issues with establishing dominance with Charlie, all other issues seemed to be someone else’s fault.
In general, though, I quite enjoyed it. The photos are a nice touch and definitely made me want to check out her blog for more of them.

Who knew I liked animal stories so much? This particular one is about an author who on a whim moves to Wyoming. While there, she becomes romantically involved with a rancher, who works killing coyotes, and moves into a tiny cabin on his ranch. Then one day he brings her home a coyote pup. I admit I would have had a hard time resisting that little baby pup, but I give her a lot of credit to facing her fear once he grows older. Even with my own dog, I'm not that great at being "dominant" and with a wild animal, albeit one you've known all his life, it would take some serious hard work. A very simple, engaging sort of read. Bella especially liked all the pictures. I had to actually hide the book to keep her from destroying it while flipping through the pages. Good one for animal folk.
I read this book about eight years ago and it stuck with me as a vivid portrait of the Wyoming landscape, and a life so different than the one I know.
Wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but thoroughly enjoyed it and read it in two days. Shreve is a great writer, telling her and Charlie's story like a friend talking over coffee.
Whether you agree or disagree or agree to disagree, Shreve tells her story, without asking for approval in the end. I was moved by her tale - and Charlie's tail.

I fell in love with coyotes thanks to Shreve Stockton's photo blog! This was a great little companion book.
This silly, lovely little book. Not a piece of fine literature, but a good story, and full of life and lovely pictures. People have compared it to "[b:Eat, Pray, Love|19501|Eat, Pray, Love|Elizabeth Gilbert|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1269870432s/19501.jpg|3352398]"--and I agree, it fills that specific need. A plane book, a lunch-break book, a beach book. It's a quick read (could have read it in a night if I'd had the time, still read it in two days), but I'm glad I read it.
It's one of those books that's full of little truths about life, and makes you happy to read it. That's all. :)

Some of the author's insightful comments reminded me so much of my thoughts and feelings. Highly enjoyable read!
I love The Daily Coyote blog, and was anxious to read this book, the true-life tale of Shreve Stockton and how she came to live in Wyoming with a coyote named Charlie and a cat named Eli.
I thought the book, even though it's non-fiction, would read a bit more like a novel. I was a little disappointed at how jilted the writing seemed at first. We find out how Shreve and Mike fall in love in the span of about a paragraph. But I think Shreve hit her stride at some point, and it gets better.
The real star here is Charlie, and how he interacts with Eli, Shreve and Mike. It's a story definitely worth reading.
Oh, and the photography is outstanding!

Well, I didn't quite finish this one. Although I liked it to a degree, I happened to put it down halfway through and never felt compelled to pick it up again. Maybe I was worried that Charlie would come to a tragic end? Maybe I was a bit bored. I enjoyed learning something about coyotes.
