Ache for You

this was so dumb i couldn’t finish it
medium-paced

3.5 stars. I liked some of JT's other books but this one didn't sit as well with me. There is the humor, which I appreciate, but this one seemed to have too many descriptions of chemistry/body reactions for me to appreciate.

For example, the first time Kimber sees Matteo, she talks about how her body reacts (something about her uterus and ovaries) which seemed a bit of an over reaction to a guy across the room. I can see a bolt of attraction but the description went on a bit long before it turned to anger and she went off on him. Which attracted him.

And at the beginning it did seem like Matteo was just playing her, so maybe the scenes didn't play out well. I appreciated the Italy angle but man, this girl had everything bad happen to her and it seemed like too much. I liked Beans, that was a fun story line.

Kimber and Matteo

DID NOT FINISH: 10%

DNF’d @ 10%. This book was patently unreadable. And what a shame that this series took such a sad turn because ‘Melt for You’ (book 2) was delicious.

All that I read was pure ick. Some examples of what bothered me:

— How was it that Kimber was so blindly unaware of her ex-fiancé’s vices? If “everyone” knew about his gambling, infidelity, and the deal about his inheritance, how did she never get a whiff, particular with a nosy BFF and the paparazzi endlessly tailing the couple?
— Kimber does a completely unbelievable about face… going from meek, fawning, and oblivious to a sensual fire cracker. Not buying it.
— The descriptions of the male MC and women’s reactions to him were so gross. The whole “my panties go up in flames at the sight of him” concept irks me to no end. It objectifies the dude and renders the female into a passively slavering animal. None of that is sexy.
— The interaction with the airline gate agent… that whole scene left me scratching my head wondering, “Who actually enjoys reading this shit?” And then feeling even more confused because I remembered that this book actually has decent ratings on GR. In any case, here’s some of what puzzled me about the scene: (1) The gate agent, first of all, was incredibly and unnecessarily callous in the face of the FMC’s real distress about an extenuating circumstance. (2) This line: “[The agent] stares at me with her brows lifted, like ‘We both know you don’t deserve first class, sister.’” Um, what? Way too ‘Pretty Woman’ for me. (3) The laughable Team Logic vs. Team Hormones internal narrative in which the dude is completely objectified. Cringe. (4) The weird LACK of logic wherein the FMC forgot that she has a phone and she could take pictures of the designs for future reference?

NOPE.

JTGs banter and spice will always scratch an itch for me. Could do without all the fat jokes but I believe this is the oldest book of hers that I’ve read and I haven’t noticed anything like that in her newer books so I’ll give it a pass with some serious side eye.
