My colleague recommended this book to me since it's a short read, it's sci-fi, and it's about dreaming. I will say that every time I read this book before bed, I had incredibly vivid dreams. The narration does a good job of drawing you in and making you wonder what's going to happen next initially, but I found that the book moved more slowly than I would have liked once I got halfway in. I got lost a few times due to the overly descriptive text and the frequent context switches between chapters. While I love concepts of dreaming and the way she explores unchecked power in forcing changes onto the world, I wasn't excited to finish the book.

It’s certainly well written, just not my kind of book at all. I don’t read sci-fi but was intrigued by the premise. I was disappointed by the execution of the story and thought I would be more captivated. I did find the reflections on free will and how much control one man should have over others interesting. Also, how removing all conflict or struggle flattens the human experience and also removes passion and difference.

I found it pretty thoroughly interesting, but for some reason didn't enjoy it as much as I'd expected to.
There's definitely some daoist influence in the story, a heavy theme is the benevolence of non-action verses the sometimes catastrophic effects of action itself.
George Orr, being a guy who practices a hefty amount of non-action, ends up being a fairly uninteresting character. He's a guy that tends to just go with flow.

Overall I liked the idea and writing style, so I'll of course be picking up something else by Le Guin and see If it's more my fancy.

Very very interesting idea and execution but for some reason I could not force myself to care. I'm surprised I finished this.

My first Ursula Leguin and I really enjoyed it! I am going to read lots more.

I love her writing style, soft approach to sci fi, and morality debates in this book. At the end of the day, that last part is what this entire novel was about.

I came in with zero expectations and I'm pleasantly surprised.

Also, glad he found his wife again. Such a sweet ending!
