At times too drawn out and at other times too quick to resolve, I found myself really truly enjoying this book.

High school senior, Jessica was adopted from Romania and raised by two sensitive, intelligent, good-hearted parents. On the first day of school and new exceptionally good-looking teenage boy comes to school--announcing he is a foreign exchange student from Romania and living with Jessica's family--news to her. Turns out that as babies Lucius and Jessica were betrothed with the hopes to unite two warring vampire families. Jessica isn't happy with the news that she really a vampire or being told who she should marry. But then again Lucius kind of has this way about him...

Another world with nontraditional vampires. Twilight readalike.

I wasn't too impressed with this book. It wasn't bad enough that I couldn't finish, cause I did finish, but it isn't really something I enjoyed. The characters got a little annoying for me. I got tired of all the drama. I felt like Tristan needed to be a little more manly with his emotions. I mean, he was manly for everything else, but his emotions were sappy. Jill's character was ok, but I got tired of her towards the end as well. I think Jill made some really dumb decisions that didn't fit with her intellectual character. There were bits of "fluff" in the writing that I didn't like. I felt like the author was trying to be very poetic or artsy, but it just distracted and got in the way of the things, and it just didn't really fit in. The whole concept was interesting, and I think the book had a lot of potential.

Wow! Can't believe I finished it within twelve hours! Love it, despite some few hiccups towards the end. [b:Jessica Rules the Dark Side|10025007|Jessica Rules the Dark Side (Jessica, #2)|Beth Fantaskey|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1298043293s/10025007.jpg|14920478], here I come!

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side is a fun YA vampire book.

Lucius drove me nuts for a lot of the book. He was so arrogant, especially at the beginning before being "Americanized". And later on he is such a jerk to Jessica! If I were Jessica, I would have given him a piece of my mind way sooner!

I loved how much Jessica grew throughout this book. In the beginning she is just a plain-Jane high school girl, but by the end, she becomes very brave and total kick-butt! I was so proud of her!

The vampire lore was somewhat watered down, with Lucius being able to go out in the daylight and not sleeping in a coffin or anything like that. However, Fantaskey added some additional lore, such as that a female vampire's fangs won't descend until she is bitten by a male. I actually wasn't a fan of this addition as it comes off kind of sexist (males don't have the same restriction).

Finally, Jessica's Guide gets a ton of bonus points for having some horse scenes! As a fellow (former) 4H member, I was super excited for any scenes with horses. Although that part of the book was mainly forgotten in the second half of the story. I think I'm still looking for the adult version of Pony Pals. Although a minor, nit-picky thing that bothered me was that Jessica's parents didn't agree with drinking milk because the cows were being exploited, yet they were totally fine with their daughter riding horses and keeping her horse in a stall. It just seemed a little inconsistent (coming from a farm girl who grew up on a beef ranch, so feel free to comment on my potential biases here).

Overall, I enjoyed Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side. However, I wasn't a huge fan of Lucius. There were a lot of traits that were swoon-worthing, but there were others I couldn't quite get past.

It was a slow start but once I got to Lucius' letters started the book picked up. They were really enjoyable and I wish they didn't stop. A little Twilight-y but a little different with the development of characters which was nice.
