Hmmm. So.
To be fully transparent, I do rather pick up star wars novels expecting the last third or so to be ramblings about the EU and excerpts of other novels.
This book was not, and if I had known that, I'm not sure I would have finished it after about halfway through because I thought I was much closer to the end than I actually was.
I think there were too many interludes, too many loose threads, and to some extent I feel like it just rambled and I never really got into it. I genuinely despised Temmin, and Norra was ...okay but not great. Admittedly her pilot-y stuff was fantastic, but I just wasn't sold on their relationship.
Appreciation for my boy Wedge, but besides that I don't think this book had a ton of redeeming qualities. Very heavy-handed foreshadowing.

This was my first Star Wars book. I was curious to see how well this would translate to the page, as I think much of the allure of Star Wars is in the visuals. I still think that after reading this book. It was fine, but there were several action/chase scenes that would have probably been much more exciting in a movie than reading about on the page. But overall, I enjoyed the book. An interesting idea to examine the immediate aftermath of the fall of Death Star 2.0 and Vader/Palpatine—what has to happen to make the HEA happen. Rae was a good antagonist and while none of the protagonist ensemble got overly developed (except for Temmin being an annoying idiot, but then again, he’s 15) none of them were particularly poorly done. I’d definitely consider picking up the next one.

Took a while to get into it, but eventually I did. It does jump around from character to character which I found didn't allow me to connect with any of them, however in parts it was well written and enjoyable

An flawed but interesting adventure

Decent Star Wars tale, if a bit flawed. The writing felt a bit rough at times (perhaps it was a rushed work to make them timeline before the new film) but once it got going was an enjoyable enough read. Curious to see what happens to this new band of characters.

I liked this book, I've heard the complaints about the writing style and honestly I had no issues regarding that. There where a few, well, maybe more than a few times where the protagonists came up against something and the solution sort of magically popped up and they were saved. But, in some ways thats inherent in a lot of books and a lot of Star Wars books.
All in all I liked this and am looking forward to the next in the series.

Not great, but good and had a lot of cool things that could lead to awesome stuff in book two. I'm looking forward to that.

Had to give this one up about half way through. I just didn't care about any of the characters or what was happening. There were too many characters for me to really get to know any of them well enough to care.

I think I wanted this book to be something else. It was a fine tale. It was not as expansive as i thought it would be, taking part almost completely on one small out of the play planet amongst a number of previously unknown characters.
Any fans of Windig will enjoy this book as it has his characteristic quick pace and colloquial style. Likely a fun read for any big Star Wars fan, but for anyone else, I'd not recommend.
