Murderbot is at it again with developing it’s ass kicking skills and it’s interpersonal skills. Investigating the remnants of something with GreyCris this time, this felt more connected to the main story from All Systems Red than the second novella did. It felt fun and well paced , the twist was good and I’m glad that even Murderbot can be wrong about things.

For a Murderbot book, this is standard. It relies a lot on Murderbot’s hacking abilities. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t feel as attached to the characters as the first two books.

Apparently Martha Wells loves her formula and after the third time it got so tired I just skimmed.

Murderbot reluctantly mother gooses some silly but vulnerable humans, Murderbot begrudgingly protects them, fight scene fight scene fight scene, Murderbot abandons the new group of humans they have to admire and have defection for, runs away.

Not to have spoilers but the characterization for MB was weird too.

Loved the first two books but this one was so dry and predictable I’m going to give up on the series

It understand why Murderbot is so resistant to making friends, but it's funny every single time it mistakes kindness for hostility. It such an extreme jump. I'll just file Miki away with Lovelace (Wayfarers) as 'AI breaks my heart, thanks' because it can probably be rebuilt but it won't be the same Miki. Also, human security who like their jobs too much are the worst, ACAB.
