This was just ok for me. Nothing seriously problematic although the writing felt like YA at times but they were in their 30s. I love YA but it is a different experience to adult.

It felt like 65% sex and 25% hockey and 10% friendship. The friendships were my favourite part 🤣 it go to a point that I was bored of them having sex tbh and wanted more plot

It had its cute moments but they seemed to get together very quickly and it was a bit unrealistic how lovey they were.

genuinely this was such a silly goofy fun time, i was giggling and kicking my feet and laughing out loud throughout it all. the chemistry and banter between Emmy and Maverick was off the charts i loved it. They both have such big hearts and just want to be seen, to be loved and to have a home. I thought they’re chemistry was organic and believable and ahhhh i just loved them. the side characters i also loved, so many of the teammates were making me laugh and the little girl group they had was so cute.

*NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP!!! WE LOVE TO SEE IT!!!!*

some of my fav quotes

“I have a past, but I have a future now too, and that future is with you.”

“For so long, I’ve felt like I was alone. Chasing after something I couldn’t quite reach and running until everything in me ached. When I’m in Maverick’s arms, I think I’ve finally put my feet on the ground. I think I’ve found someone who might help heal that loneliness that’s followed me for years.”

“To find someone who wants to keep me—not Maverick Miller the hockey player, but Maverick Miller, the fuckup kid without a family who tells jokes so no one knows he sometimes feels dead inside.”

Face off is a lot of fun.  The characters are playful and fun and I adore that this is a book that shows positive rep of a woman on an nhl team.  I think that’s one of my favorite parts of this book.

Also there’s a lot of look into other characters who are the future in the series and I look forward to future books from this author and finishing the series.

My one content warning would be:
the fmc’s ex threatens her with a gang rape and calls her all sorts of name for being better then he is.  The mmc and teammates avenge her for this.
