Do not go into this book thinking there is going to be anything new that isn’t in another typical fantasy romance… I’ve read this book before previously with a different title…

But you know what? That didn’t stop me from absolutely. eating. this. book. up!!!!!!

Is it predictable? Yes?
Is the plot fairly obvious? Yes?

This book was like the steamy version of the shadows between us and a different ACOTAR… but it gave me exactly what I wanted! Tropey Entertainment of the best kind! I mean who wouldn’t want a sexy vampire “enemies to lovers almost beauty and the best retelling” it’s like the perfect concoction of a story!

It’s well written and I frankly could not put it down!

If you like enemies to lovers, destined to be together, mates, and forced marriage tropes you will love this. Also, if you do not like lots of spice… this is not the book for you.

This book is about the Vampire “Blood” King, Adrian and the Human Princess, Isolde and how a peace treaty forces Isolde to marry Adrian. While she doesn’t want to be drawn to him, it seems like she can’t help but get whisked away by him and his honesty and protective nature of her. Not only does this book have vampires and monsters in it, it also adds in some mythology of witches.
I really liked that the author dove into the actual creation of magic and vampires. It gave the story a little more depth and world building.

What’s not to love about this coupling? I love that they are both the grumpy type but he is actually the grumpy to everyone but her. MY FAVORITE!!
While I did find it a little alarming that once Isolde did get power with her Queen title it seemed like she abused it almost immediately with killing anyone that spoke ill of her but she wouldn’t kill the girl that was making her jealous on purpose and trying to get in between their relationship?? However, I did really enjoy the fact that he was her ride or die. He never questioned her motives or actions and even when she did stab and kill people (who may have deserved some sort of punishment), he would take the knife from her and clean it for her.. my jaw was on the floor.

Reads like a fanfiction. Which was actually nice, when you were trying to stay awake for 10h flight. Plot and characters were easy and felt like i've read this before, just change the setting and you get pretty little romance/fantasy book. Still i enjoyed this!

I really wanted to include a specific quote in my review for this book, but I'm having trouble finding it and I'm an impatient bitch, so we're just not including it.

Maybe I'm just really into trashy romance novels recently but I fucking loved this book. It feels like this is what a condensed version of JLA's From Blood and Ash would have been without
Casteel's deception plot
. I love that series so it makes sense I would love this too.

It was interesting coming to this after having read A Touch of Darkness because the writing style was so much different and engaging. To me it seems like Scarlett St. Clair really found her voice in this story, and I can't wait to read the second one in December!

I honestly think this one is spicier than the others I’ve read by this author. I loved the love story. It was enemies to lovers but in the best way. I loved the protagonist. I enjoy how she learns and grows as the novel progresses to become a more developed, understanding person - which is how I think we should all live. There was a bit of predictability in the plot and there were a few grammatical issues that led me to a four star rating as opposed to a five star rating.

Spoiler alert - This book was my first vampire reading and omg, was it boring and basically erotica (I hope my next vampire book is not anything like this book). Every 5 pages there was a sex scene, Isolde didn’t know anything beyond Adrian’s cock 😩

The story itself was poorly executed, it is offensive somehow, like seriously, was the author super horny fantasizing about having sex with a vampire when she wrote this book?

I read the author’s note and the way she described the elements she used in the book sounded terrific, but when you see those elements in the book, it makes you question your whole existence. There was nothing of that, very very poor storyline…ugh.

Adrian and Isolde, the latter being 26 if I remember correctly, were like teens wanting to do porn. I am so offended I was sold on something completely different from what actually was delivered. Both characters are super hyperplane and boring, Isolde wanting to stab everyone just because and being nasty just because, again…and Adrian, what did he do besides calling her “sparrow”, respectfully, what the heck?

How can I unread this crap?
