This was a highly anticipated read for me – I enjoyed it so much and had a great time reading it! As the first book in a trilogy, I feel like it opened up really well and I'm definitely excited to see where the story goes.
There's banter and tension between the mc's, great side characters that give found family vibes and the romance is slow burning. It has so many of my favorite tropes too and I was DELIGHTED to get a "one horse" moment.
I honestly don't have a whole lot more to say. Just make sure to read this book if you want a romantasy with magical kingdoms, twists and turns!

Such a fun read but the way I took off a star for the nickname fucking bird?!? It pulled me out of the story so much lol it was awful
A Dawn of Onyx is book 1 in The Sacred Stones trilogy. This is a romantic fantasy that gives ACOTAR vibes but is not quite so complex – less backstory and world-building. We follow our girl Arwen Valondale after she is taken prisoner by an enemy kingdom. Nothing is quite as it seems and Arwen is slowly learning there is more out in the world then what she was told in her small village. There’s magic, beasts, secrets, evil kings, and forbidden forests! But don’t let this crazy map fool you because I gave this one 4 stars. I felt that the stakes were not really that high and that some of the plot twists at the end were random. I want to see more character development and world-building in the next book! For now I think my interest is peaked enough to continue the series and I’ll be sure to give you my full thoughts when I’m done.
