3.5 stars…this was fair. Not the best Preston/Child book I’ve read, but it wasn’t bad either. It kept my attention, and I enjoyed reading a book set in NM. Otherwise, the plot got far fetched in some places, and in other ways they could have pulled the thread further and leaned into the premise.

Aliens? Really? Preston & Child are at their best when items are just this side of unbelievable. This book is firmly on the other side. I’m reminded of Crimson Shore, which had a similar unbelievable government conspiracy, but slightly more based in reality. I would have loved more of the impact of Corrie’s mentor’s situation. In book three of the Nora Kelly outshoot and they have yet to come close to the love I have for thunderhead. Disappointing.

Preston & Child's books are always entertaining and keep me glued to the page and this was no exception. It was a solid read but did seem a little wordy towards the end.
