Sci-Fi for people who don’t read Sci-Fi (and probably for people who do, I’m just in the former camp and really enjoyed it despite not normally gravitating towards the genre).

This book was a whirlwind; puns, death and arguments oh my and all in the first 5 chapters?! There’s political intrigue, handling of sexuality and gender all wrapped up in an action packed plot with a badass FMC who is badass for legitimate reasons not just ✨ because ✨ (not that there’s anything wrong with that - but I prefer when it feels earned personally).

This book was extremely enjoyable to read up until the 80-90% mark and then it became an absolute delight - twists and turns I never saw coming that had me running to the group chat to react to them and honestly really was the icing on the cake. This felt like a really approachable world for romantasy and fantasy fans and I think is a great stepping on point for anyone wanting to try out the genre.

Wow! This was such a unique story and introduction to characters! Sage is such a bada** FMC. Her backstory is full of twists and turns, which adds quite a bit to the storyline as a whole. Now introduce Damian, the MMC….one of the most intriguing morally gray men I’ve ever read about!! Astrid Cole did an amazing job creating these characters (along with so many others!). This story is very much character driven and fast paced. I’m not one to do spoilers….but that ending has me ready to jump into Emerald City so be prepared!

Sci-fi isn't my first genre that I am going to grab, but I am happy I picked this one up.
This dystopian, sci-fi fantasy is an easy read that is filled with comedic banter, action, spice, and a fierce heroine who just wants to stay retired while running her pizza shop.
Diamond City takes the reader on a wild adventure.
It did however feel like the reader was plopped into an already existing story. There was some world building throughout the journey, but a full picture backstory and full disclosure of terms would have saved the reader some confusion at times. A great adventure regardless.
I will say that I will be picking up more sci-fi books while I wait for the next book in this series to release.

REVIEW

I was a bit sceptical about this book at the beginning since I normally don't like sci-fi as much but as I kept reading I got really into it. Our MC is Sage who is powerful and doesn't hesitate to show it. I love a powerful female lead and Sage did not disappoint.

This book had a lot of things which are different from your traditional plot lines.
- One of them is that Sage and Damian do not have a perfect relationship even though they love each other.
- Secondly, I love how as a change it's the guy who is into fashion and arts while the girl is into fighting. It was quite refreshing to read.

The book has a good pace and plenty of twists. It also has pretty random comedy parts which catches you off guard but the moments are really funny.

This book had me hooked. Would read it again!

Book Title: Diamond City (Diamond City Series #1)
Author: Astrid Cole
Format : Digital – Apple Books
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I don’t usually read sci-fi fantasy romance books but this book was pretty entertaining. Took me a second to get in the loop but I got there and immediately took a liking to Sage and then Damian came along and I was so for it. I shipped them immediately. This was definitely a fun read for me with romance, smut, action, and pizza. If you’re into sci-fi this is definitely the book for you.

This book was amazing. It started kind of slow because of worldbuilding then it got really interesting. I fell in love with Damian as soon as he started interacting with Sage. I also love Sage so much! She's so strong and I admire her. I liked her as the main character. The plot was good and compelling. The writing kept me interested and on my feet. And all the characters were fun to read about. I can't wait to read the next book!

Loved this book and the chance to read it early. Astrid created and badass, vulnerable, take no BS FMC. she also spun a great enemies to lovers tale and watching them connect was the absolute best. So excited to read Emerald City next!!!!

I’m going to rewrite this 15 times because I don’t believe in trashing books and I usually do unhinged reviews but every once in a while y’all get a serious one out of me and this is it.

The premise seemed really interesting, and I’m always pro-female leads in books.  I never really connected with Sage, she got in a lot of fights for no apparent reason why except someone had beef with her.  All the time.

There was a lot of telling involved in the story versus a lot of showing and so much exposition. When I got to the last 8 chapters, I skilled three, read one, skilled three, and read one, and didn’t lose the story.

I also didn’t buy Damian as the love interest, BUT, this is also not a love story, just a story with love in it so I don’t expect much time to be paid to the romance.

I really wanted to enjoy this, but I couldn’t. I even soft-DNFed this, thinking that maybe I would like it better if I stopped reading it and came back to it later, but I didn’t.
