Kauniisti kirjoitettu teos. Ensimmäinen lukemani sotaromaani. Sinänsä virheetön kokonaisuus, mutta jotain syvyyttä tästä puuttui. Keskittyi ehkä omaan makuun turhan paljon kuvailevaan kerrontaan.

I liked the overall plot of the book and enjoyed the middle part but did not like the short chapter structure. It took 200+ pages to get into it. Probably would not have finished if not a book club book.

Probably one of the most interesting and well written books I’ve read.

Never did I think I would learn so much about the transistor radio. Whether across radiowaves or the pages of a book, communication is what makes us human, and what connects across all divides.
All the Light is a splendid tale of two children's lives through the rise and fall of WWII. This provides a fresh perspective on the untold stories of life during the war. It's equal parts joyous and tragic, and - like someone who's lost a family member during the war - keeps you desperate for more time with the characters you meet.

Beautifully written book not only in the prose but also in the chapter set-up. I loved how it quickly flowed from one character's point of view to the next.

I really enjoyed the format of the book, small chapters focused on individual characters. Sometimes I would get impatient, if I was really into a characters story and it would end in a page, but generally, this writing style kept me engaged and excited. The characters themselves are very lovable- makes one root for them. Also loved that the brutality of the war is showcased in an indirect manner- through the journey of the characters. It's definitely an emotional book though and broke my heart a couple times. With the characters, I found myself looking back at their beautiful past, hoping they get another chance to live that. Another reason I loved this book is that it didn't skimp on the technical details, letting the reader choose how much they want to invest in it.

I never finished this book. I found the pace very slow. The present tense prose was irritating. The jack- booted Nazis were cliched.
