Sylvia Plath blows me away every time. I see myself in her pages and find reading this almost therapeutic.

I really enjoyed reading Sylvia Plath's poetry. Ever since I read The Bell Jar (and then googled Sylvia and learned more about her) I have been fascinated by her life and her work. I also loved her book of unabridged journals. So when I saw there was a book of her poetry I just had to buy it and read it.

Sylvia Plath's writing is just so addicting. Everything flows beautifully and I just loved so many of these poems. I had such a great time reading this book while I was out relaxing in a cabin in the woods. I still wish I was there on vacation reading this book of poetry.

These poems are just so emotional and honest. They speak to me as a woman. There is just something about Sylvia Plath's writing that I connect with at the very core of myself. I'm sure some psychiatrist would have a field day with that, but there it is.

Overall I thought The Collected Poems of Sylvia Plath was a great book of poetry that I would recommend to all Sylvia Plath fans, even if you aren't a poetry fan.

Sylvia Plath was very interesting and intelligent and this complete collection of her poetry showcases that. I do not get or enjoy all of her poetry but I do have select favorites mostly from her earliest poems (juvenilia) and her later work. This collection was well organized and thought out. It is definitely the type of book you can return to again and again to find a new poem to love and learn something new about Sylvia Plath every time you return to it.

Reading Plath's poetry was an interesting experience, but boring sometimes.
In many poems it's clear enough what she's thinking, what she wants to say, despite the many metaphors she uses in them. But when it comes to 1960-1962, it's really hard to know what she's speaking about.
I prefer the Juvenilia poems, but from her professional work, my favorite one is Soliloquy of the Solipsist.
About her 1963 poems, I think is her best time, since you can see, not 100% clearly, what she was thinking.
In many of her others texts, she's very repetitive, using the same phrases, words, the same structure, despite the ideas are different (I think they are). I lost count the number ot times I read "whiteness", "belly", "milk", "father", "dad", and other words.
Not my kind of poetry, for sure.
No es mi tipo de poesía, seguro.

So I read the Bell Jar in college and loved it. Therefore, I thought, surely I’ll love her poetry. And so I tucked in expecting the emo queen to make me experience all the feels of tangled and wrenched emotions…

…instead I got really dull and uninteresting poems about nature, Greek mythology, and medieval themes. It’s not to say it’s bad poetry, but I only like poetry that speaks of the human heart and this was not that. I’m sure she is a great poet, but I could barely keep awake reading this. Completely not what I expected.
