Darcy Coates’ Gallows Hill is a standout with its captivating writing style, something I’ve come to expect and love from her. The story follows Margot, who unexpectedly inherits her family’s sprawling vineyard, Gallows Hill, a place shrouded in eerie legends and a dark history. As Margot returns to the property, she begins uncovering its chilling secrets, including unsettling truths about her family’s past and the land’s haunting influence. Despite the escalating dangers, Margot’s resilience shines as she navigates the sinister forces around her. The ending did seem a little rushed to me but didn’t disappoint. The character development is strong, drawing you deeper into Margot’s journey, and the plot is meticulously crafted, filled with suspense and unexpected twists. Coates delivers yet another thrilling and satisfying story!

Sometimes the horror genre can focus too much on scare tactics and lose sight of the story, but this one delivered a fantastic balance. It was a unique and interesting plot and I enjoyed it very much! The writing style isn’t strong, but the story makes up for it.

I've read most of Steven Kings novels, House of Leaves, and countless other horror novels, but this is hands down the scariest book I have ever read. I can't wait to read more from this author.
