This book turned me off of this author. First one I'd read by her and it will be the last. Painfully slow and dull for the first 150 to 200 pages before you learn anything of note. The descriptions are excruciatingly repetitive and do nothing to set an actual tone, time, or place. This could have been set literally anywhere with a hill and trees in "the country" hours from "a city". So much unnecessary vagueness screams lazy author to me. Either she doesn't care enough to do actual research or she thinks far too highly of her ability to set a scene/world built in an unnamed time and place. Either way, it doesn't work. And I haven't even started on the lack of character building ... as in, there isn't any. I could tell you more about the dog and her parents' corpses than I can tell you about any of the main characters actual personalities. Completely flat, boring people. I kept hoping the main character would die just so the book would be over and not end up on my DNF pile. I completed it with a lot of effort. So.much.buildup. So much hope for a great payoff. And then a flat, unsatisfying ending. Conclusion: extremely interesting tale terribly told. In the hands of a better author, this story/plot could have really been great. Sigh.

If I ever was unnerved by a book's eerie/creepy scenes, this is the one.

I really felt the MC's powerlessness when confronted by strange and ominous happenings both inside and around the house.

The whole thing played like a nightmare, in a good way.

This book was ok. It would have been much better if it were a little shorter. I’d classify it as a “slow burner”.. I was excited with the ending and read that quickly, but, this book took me over a month to get through. A great storyline just needed to get to the point in some places.

Meh. 2.5 stars is more likely.
