finally some good food 😭 OMG I have been searching high and low for a good haunted house book. All I wanted was something to give me a similar feeling to Home Before Dark by Riley Sager. And FINALLY I have found something to scratch the itch. This was significantly creepier to me as well. The beginning of this book actually had me feeling creeped out! I was reading this at night in bed and actually second guessing if maybe I should switch books (I didn’t)
I never get scared from books! Obviously it being creepy is super subjective and other people have described this as cozy (I don’t get that AT ALL) but idc I might have found the haunted house author for me.
I also really appreciated the conversation in this book about profiting off of the bloodshed and suffering of others. I think it’s a conversation that is very relevant in the history of my country along with many others.
Overall I just really enjoyed this so much.

This story is truly terrifying and ignited the same sense of terror I remember having while reading The Shining for the first time as an older teen.

It was slow for me in the beginning but once the first show of one of the dead ones I got into it. It could have been slow for me because I wasn't totally in the spooky reading mood.
