challenging dark slow-paced
I *struggled* to get through this book. The author really truly loves world-building which is admirable, but there are so many characters, side quests, back stories, etc that it was a slog. HOWEVER, there is a twist so big in the last 50 pages, it pulled this from a Do Not Read to a 3 stars.

could have easily been 300 pages shorter and nothing of value would have been lost, also these people are all wayyyy too horny, but OH THE LORE IS LORE-ING and I am invested in ALL these mysteries. I just wish I cared more about the characters overall, though Bryce is probably my favourite SJM protag so far.

side note, Ithan and Tharion absolutely should have been a thing. you still have a book to remedy this, Sarah. don't be a coward
